TL-WN725N and Raspberrypi

TL-WN725N To use TL-WN725N in Raspberrypi, we need to configure it manually (open the terminal window if you are graphics mode)

First we need to find the raspberrypi version.
uname -r

Based on the rp version number we need to choose our 8188eu tar file from Raspberrypi Forum

Get the respective tar file using wget and extract as shown below

wget https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/80256631/8188eu-201xyyzz.tar.gz

tar -zxvf 8188eu-201*.tar.gz

If your version is below 3.10.33+ then execute the following command as well

sudo cp rtl8188eufw.bin /lib/firmware/rtlwifi

Copy the extracted 8188eu.ko to wireless folder as shown below

sudo install -p -m 644 8188eu.ko /lib/modules/$uname -r/kernel/drivers/net/wireless

Now insert the module into kernel.

sudo insmod /lib/modules/$uname -r/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/8188eu.ko

To make the module available for the users execute the depmod command as shown

sudo depmod -a

Now reboot the raspberrypi and we are done.

sudo reboot

On reboot, wireless adapter will be up and running.

To configure wifi in raspberrypi first install wicd-curses

sudo apt-get install wicd-curses

and to execute it

sudo wicd-curses

Probably now you are not seeing any ssid getting displayed. Don't worry let us set the preferences by pressing P

Wireless Interface: will be blank whereas the Wired Interface: will be lan0. Set the Wireless Interface as wlan0. Press F10 to save it and press R to refresh.

Now all the wireless connection names will be displaced. To configure your wifi settings, go to the respective wifi name and press ->, so go for static ip so you dont have to look for ip of your raspberrypi. Enter the password and press F10 to save and Q to quit.

Restart now and connect to raspberrypi using the static ip address you configured in wicd-curses.

Finally you have installed tl-wn725n in raspberrypi and configured wifi using wicd-curses.
